Interesting things the kids told me last night: the most memorable quote of the day was from Jonathon Martin, who said, “China is the new AIG.” Most surprising experience for me: not one of the students so much as blinked when discussing the sports reporter. Kathy Orton spoke to the students for over an hour, answering their many questions, and the only one that dealt with her gender was one she brought up. It is truly a new generation in charge. Favorite thing about our group: how quickly we gelled, amazingly funny, super smart.

Everything is falling into place for the arrival of the students tomorrow. I will be waiting to greet students by the dorms and direct folks to the check-in. Tomorrow night’s speaker, Brian Lamb, is the founder of C-Span. Students will have a great time learning their way around campus and meeting each other before we climb in bed. Monday morning will be an early start! I’ve already enjoyed meeting about a dozen new people, from teachers to university personnel to camera dudes.

This is the first day of training, and what a lot to go over! We are all getting very excited for the students to arrive. It is exciting to be on a college campus again, around all of this energy. The schedule for the week is chock-full of great experiences. We’ve learned about lots of technology today that will be really helpful in the upcoming week. And the food in the dining hall was really yum!
